Upgrades can increase the value of weapons, armors and rings. They also increase bonuses like damage from PvE and crit chance.

Components
Upgrade components can be added to weapons, armor and trinkets to provide them with a boost in stats or add a bonus effect. These can be obtained by crafting, purchasing from vendors or trading with other players or looting. Some upgrades have special cosmetic effects.
Upgrade components can only be used on devices that have slots. The item must be upgraded to a blue level before a component can be applied. Upgrade components, unlike other mods can only be applied once. They cannot be replaced or applied several times. Infusions and Enrichments are kind of upgrade component that can be used to upgrade non-amulet legendary or ascending equipment, as as some non-ascended items. Infusions and Enrichments can be obtained by salvaging equipment from the ascended state or by completing a mission within the Prophecies, Factions, and Nightfall campaigns.
An upgrade can have a prefix or suffix changing the name of the equipment to the upgrade (for example "Canthan Armor Insignia" becomes Canthan Armor of Minor Vigor). Certain upgrades boost the Mark Rarity or Level of an item, allowing players to create stronger versions of the item using fewer Upgrade crystals than they would require to reach the same level using normal methods.
A boost upgrade can alter the attack or defense properties of a weapon, or armor. These upgrades are available to be made from the Portative Forging Station once the player completes the cutscene and defeats the Crazed mechanic. They can be dropped by enemies while upgrading other gear, or by buying them from the cash shop for 500 upgrade crystals per.
Each upgrade increases the likelihood that a higher-tier version of an item will be revealed during the next reset. This gives the player an incentive to continue improving their equipment even if they're uncertain of how much they'll increase after a future reset.
The process of upgrading an item could be costly and it's possible that the item will be obsolete or even break in the event that the upgrade is unsuccessful. Upgrade Crystals and assist powder are also destroyed if the upgrade fails. This is mitigated by the availability of cash shop items that can increase or even eliminate the chances of failure, and a few upgrades that give a bonus when reinserted into an item.
Glyphs
Glyphs can be used to improve the Paragon Board by placing them in sockets with special functions. Glyphs can boost the performance of nodes within a radius, and include any existing affixes. Glyphs are upgraded in many ways, and we recommend getting them to level 15 as soon as you can.
You'll often see in the final game that placing Glyphs is the best way to upgrade your equipment. They are the only upgrade components that can be upgraded straight to level 15 and offer an enormous boost to your power and radius on the Paragon Board, enabling you to climb higher nodes more quickly.
Glyphs, which is the only upgrade component which can be removed without restriction and then replaced again are the most commonly used. The only exception is legendary equipment that requires a Black Lion Salvage Kit to salvage and then re-install.
Each Glyph has a certain range of values that can enhance a stat by, and the value is displayed when you choose the Glyph in your inventory. You can choose to replace it with a different Glyph of the same rank or higher rank, which will increase the overall value of the Glyph.
Glyphs are available in the Black Lion Trading Post as part of an Gem Store bundle or purchase them with certain tools that are unlimited in use as well as during Faction Crypt Raids. Each Faction Crypt can drop one of these Glyphs. There are also some rare glyphs that you can find in any of the Faction Crypts.
Once you have gotten the desired Glyphs you will require them to be placed on your equipment. Leveling
The item upgrading system allows players to increase the performance of specific items by putting upgraded components in them. This is commonly known as "upping". Each upgradeable item comes with an amount that determines its upgraded stats. Upgraded items may be leveled up to a maximum level of 385. Each level of item requires various components, and the cost of upgrading increase with each level.
Certain upgrades require an ingredient to be activated. This ingredient can be obtained by completing Upgrade Recipes. These recipes can be bought from NPCs, or on the upgrade tab of the crafting table. Each Upgrade Recipe that is completed earns some Technology Points. These points can be used for the upgrading of an item. Once enough points are earned you'll be able to claim your upgrade and get its extra bonuses.
When an individual player upgrades the equipment they have, the base item will be replaced with an item that is new. This means that the same armor piece will get an weapon or shield once upgraded. The new item also has its own bonus. This could be a disadvantage, as the item can become more expensive even if you do not need it.
Item upgrades can sometimes be rerolled, if the player has enough tokens to be able to do this. This causes the item to be exchanged for a brand new one, which will have a level 1 base and a different set of bonuses. This is a good idea but it should not be used frequently as it can be a waste of resources.
Certain upgrades can be rerolled many times, increasing their value and giving players the ability to alter their gear. One example is Dolphin's Gift, which gives an increase in power when a player repeatedly enters and leaves the water (or does not swim as dolphins). Failures will cause the item to revert back to its original condition, which requires the user to spend more money on materials than they would had they stopped upgrading at the highest number of upgrades.
If an item does not upgrade the amount of experience in its growth bar is reset to zero. The item also loses any bonuses it gained, such as crit chance damage to attack, other effects (such as a higher healing rate over time or the speed of reloading). However, the player can continue to use the weapon or armor following the failure.
When an item is upgraded, the upgrades are applied from lowest to highest. This means that when a weapon is upgraded, if it receives a crit chance boost that it will be applied prior to any attack damage increases. A new attribute called Slots is now added to the item's definition and the value is computed each time an upgrade is made.
The amount of resources required to upgrade an item is based on the rarity rating and number of upgrade slots. The cost of upgrading non-premium equipment is equal to its base value. For instance an item that is commonplace could have five upgrades for a price of. 25600 Technology Points 4x Quality Improvement Chance. Hero quality items have lower costs per upgrade.
Premium items might require different upgrades than regular gear. For instance, they may need less sowels, however they may require more minerals and orons. Regardless, the player will have to visit the NPC [ArmorBoboko in Central Flarine. Boboko in Central Flarine with each piece of equipment they wish to upgrade.
